Antibiotic resistance gene dissipation in soil microcosms amended with antibiotics and swine manure

چکیده

The use of antibiotics in animal agriculture has exacerbated the presence both antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and residual excreted manure. Field application this manure is a common practice because its nutrient rich material can benefit crop growth. However, also introduce ARGs into nonagricultural settings. integration prairie buffer strips within at edge fields potential management solution to reduce concentrations commonly transported via water runoff infiltration. An incubation experiment was conducted investigate fate directly manured field soils surrounding affected strip soils. Row sampled from three sites received either an spike swine addition or control addition. select were then monitored over 72-d period. Although soil vegetation site location not observed influence ARG dissipation, did display different half-lives one another. For example, tetM demonstrated fastest dissipation quantified (average half-life, 5.18 d). Conversely, sul1 conform first-order linear regression kinetics used describe other investigated highly abundant these are comparable previous studies inform monitoring mitigative efforts aimed reducing spread environment.

Occurrence of Azospirillum brasilense in soils amended with swine manure

Restriction analysis of amplified 16S rDNA from bacterial strains isolated from soil was used to evaluate the effects of swine manure and urea fertilisation on indigenous populations of the plant growth promoting bacterium, Azospirillum brasilense, in corncultivated experimental plots. Several operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were found among the isolates. One of them, identified as A. brasil...

Effect of tetracycline residues in pig manure slurry on tetracycline-resistant bacteria and resistance gene tet(M) in soil microcosms.

Effects of tetracycline residues from pig manure slurry on the prevalence of tetracycline-resistant bacteria and the tetracycline resistance gene, tet(M), were studied in soil microcosms. Four types of soil microcosms were established for a period of 152 days, supplemented with combinations of pig manure slurry and a tetracycline-resistant Enterococcus faecalis, CG110, containing the tetracycli...

Bioaccumulation of pharmaceuticals and other anthropogenic waste indicators in earthworms from agricultural soil amended with biosolid or swine manure.

Analysis of earthworms offers potential for assessing the transfer of organic anthropogenic waste indicators (AWIs) derived from land-applied biosolid or manure to biota. Earthworms and soil samples were collected from three Midwest agricultural fields to measure the presence and potential for transfer of 77 AWIs from land-applied biosolids and livestock manure to earthworms. The sites consiste...

Metolachlor and chlorothalonil dissipation in gypsum-amended soil.

This work focused on the interactive effects of the fungicide chlorothalonil (2,3,4,6-tetrachloro-1,3-benzendicarbonitrile) and gypsum on the persistence of the soil-residual herbicide metolachlor (2-chloro-N-(6-ethyl-o-tolyl)-N-[(1RS)-2-methoxy-1-methylethyl]acetamide). Gypsum application was included due to its widespread use on peanut (Arachis hypogaea). Both agricultural grade gypsum and re...

Effects of Copper Addition on Copper Resistance, Antibiotic Resistance Genes, and intl1 during Swine Manure Composting

Copper is one of the most abundant heavy metals present in swine manure. In this study, a laboratory-scale aerobic composting system was amended with Cu at three levels (0, 200, and 2000 mg kg-1, i.e., control, Cu200, and Cu2000 treatments, respectively) to determine its effect on the fate of copper resistance genes [copper resistance genes (CRGs): pcoA, cusA, copA, and tcrB], antibiotic resist...
